The 2024 Canterbury AFL Womens (CAFLW) season commences Friday September 27th, and will see a number of new initiatives introduced across various aspects of the competition, which will only enhance the experience and excitement for those participating.
After what has been measured and steady growth across the initial three (3) seasons, the CAFLW competition is ready to align with its male counterpart, to provide a more rounded, structured and rewarding environment for its female players. These changes will hopefully include ..
- Coaches being sought for both teams (Dolphins & Panthers), along with Team Managers in an ideal setting ;
- A Physio being on hand on every game night ;
- The size of the playing field increased to the same as the mens playing field size (whereas in past years it has been a reduced dimensions) ;
- The teams’ playing rosters being set and confirmed prior to the first game of the season being played, and
- Training nights likely to be introduced during the week, for both team’s players to continue to gel and connect with one another.
Expressions of interest are currently being sought for the role of Coach for each team, with the hope of having both resources in place by mid-late August. It will then allow the playing rosters to be confirmed, and the Coaches to have the ability to commence their season and training schedule planning.
Games will continue to be played at Hagley Park North, on the corner of Riccarton Ave and Deans Ave where HSOB Rugby clubrooms are situated. Round 1 is slated for Friday September 27th, with the start time still TBC.
Its sure to be another thrilling yet fun filled season of CAFLW, with every game played showcasing the wonderful, talented and skilful female AFL players here in Christchurch.
