CAFL-W 2023

The 2023 Canterbury AFL Womens’ (CAFLW) season will get underway on Friday 29th September, with a new venue, new time and new playing guernseys all relevant for this year’s competition.

The games will be played at Hagley Park, Cnr Deans & Riccarton Aves, this year to achieve greater exposure for the competition, from passing traffic to people out exercising or visiting the park and the surrounds.  Games will be played Friday nights from 6.30pm, with Daylight Savings providing for the ability to pay the games without needing to make use of lights.

There is also two (2) Training / Come & Try sessions planned for the Fridays of 15th September and 22nd September from 6pm, also to be held at the same venue.  These sessions are open to anyone who wants to come and try AFL, with a safe, welcoming and encouraging environment provided for the enjoyment of all involved.

In addition, the women will also have their own, specially designed and specially made playing guernseys available for this season, with Geeks On Wheels having so generously come on board as the major sponsor of the 2023 CAFLW Season.  The sponsorship funds, together with grant monies obtained through the Kiwi Gaming Trust, have allowed for these guernseys to be provided for the women to wear, as opposed to the old mens’ jerseys they have had to rely on in their previous two seasons.

It is exciting and everyone involved in CAFLW cannot wait for the start to see the women in action in their new playing strip, as well as at their new venue.

And .. as a further item of excitement … the recently built HSOB Rugby changing rooms & showers, just behind the playing field, will be open and available for the women to make use of on their game days.  This will mean they no longer need to get changed on the side of the field, and can also make use of having a shower after the game if they wish.  There are also toilet facilities for spectators to use as well.

All in all, a huge year of progression and development for Womens AFL here in Christchurch.

Why not get involved … connect with us now on our Facebook page – CAFLW – register and come down on the 15th or 22nd September to give it a go.
