Founded by the McWhinnies in 1999, therefore the oldest club in the CAFL, the Blues were the powerhouse of the 2000’s harbouring a lot of star players for the time, with 10 NZ Falcons’ International Cup players and 2 NZ Falcons’ coaches. They were very organised and even played a friendly game against Japan at Princes Park (now known as Optus Oval) in Melbourne in 2004.
The Blues won 7 premierships across 2000, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008 (becoming the only club to win a hat-trick) and 2014, before going through a rebuilding period until they were Runners-up in 2020 and 2021. They finally won their next flag in 2022, where re-organisation under coach Andrew Leckie saw them become Premiers again, and repeated the effort in 2023. Can they once again achieve the three-peat in 2024 …
