CAFLW
The Canterbury AFL Womens competition is now into its fourth (4th) year of existence, after coming to life in September of 2021. After many years of planning, discussions and promotion throughout the Canterbury AFL mens competition, as well as the general Christchurch community, the dream of having a dedicated competition for women to play the great game of Australian Rules here in Canterbury was realised.
Games are currently played on Friday nights from late September through until early/mid November, at Hagley Park on the corner of Deans & Riccarton Avenues.
Season 2024 is due to commence with Training / Come & Try sessions TBC, with the first season game set for Friday September 27th, first bounce at 6.15pm. Games are four (4) quarters in length, ideally each quarter being 12-15 mins, depending on numbers available for each week’s game.
There are two (2) teams currently competing in the CAFLW competition – the Dolphins and the Panthers. These team names were only created in 2023, with new playing guernseys and team logos also having been designed specially for the 2023 season and beyond.
The CAFLW competition is open to all women aged 14yrs and above, with modified rules played to assist those who are beginning their AFL journey to fully understand the do’s and dont’s of the rules whilst becoming comfortable playing AFL.
Why not contact Jess McCormick on 021 107 7514 and come & get involved. Its a heap of fun, entertaining and a great way to keep/get/stay fit during Spring and into Summer.
